If you are a resident of California, you have specific privacy rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) of 2018, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) of 2020. Even though we do not sell personal data for money, we fall under these laws’ requirements and are committed to honoring your rights. This section provides the disclosures and rights required by California law:

Categories of Personal Information Collected: In the past 12 months, we have collected (as described above) the following categories of personal information, as defined in the CCPA/CPRA:

  • Identifiers (e.g., IP address, unique online identifiers like cookie IDs).
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information (browsing history or usage information on our Site, such as pages viewed, clicks, and time stamps).
  • Approximate geolocation data (e.g., general location derived from IP address).
  • Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, financial information, precise geolocation, or biometric data.

Sources of Personal Information: We obtain the above information from two sources:

(1) Directly from you, through your interaction with our Site (automated collection via your browser and device), and (2) Through third-party analytics/advertising partners (Google and Facebook) that collect the information via their cookies and pixels on our Site, as detailed in Section 3.

Business or Commercial Purpose for Collection: We collect and use this information for the business purposes of operating and improving our Site, providing analytics, showing relevant advertisements, detecting security incidents, and debugging as needed. These purposes are described in more detail in the “How We Use Information” section of this Policy (Section 4). We do not use personal information for purposes incompatible with those disclosed.

Disclosure of Personal Information: We have disclosed the above categories of personal information to third parties who are service providers/partners (Google, Facebook, and A2 Hosting) for the business purposes described in this Policy. For example, we share identifiers and internet activity data with Google (analytics/ads) and Facebook (ads) to help us perform analytics and advertising. We do not sell personal information in exchange for money. However, the CCPA/CPRA defines “sale” or “sharing” in a way that can include sharing data for advertising purposes. Under that definition, our use of analytics and advertising cookies/pixels may be considered a “sharing” of identifiers and internet activity data with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising (targeted ads). We do not have actual knowledge of selling or sharing personal information of anyone under 16.

Your Rights: California residents have the following rights regarding their personal information, subject to certain exceptions and our ability to verify your request:

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request that we disclose what personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months, including the categories of personal info, the categories of sources, the business purposes for collection, the categories of third parties with whom we shared the info, and specific pieces of personal information we have about you.
  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, with certain exceptions (for example, if the information is required to complete a transaction you initiated, detect security incidents, comply with a legal obligation, etc.).
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. As noted, while we do not sell data for monetary gain, the use of third-party advertising cookies might be deemed a “sharing” of data for targeted advertising. If you wish to opt out of this, you can instruct us as described below (see “How to Exercise Your Rights”) and/or use browser signals like the Global Privacy Control (GPC). We honor GPC signals as a valid opt-out request to the extent required by law.
  • Right to Correct: Effective January 1, 2023 (under CPRA), you have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you. Given the limited data we collect (mostly technical identifiers), this will likely not apply often, but we will correct any factual inaccuracies in your data upon verifiable request.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Info: We do not collect sensitive personal information, so this right is not applicable. If that changes, California residents would have the right to limit our use/disclosure of sensitive personal information to certain allowed purposes.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights. This means, for example, we will not deny you our services or provide a different level of service if you choose to exercise your privacy rights.

How to Exercise Your California Rights: If you are a California resident and wish to exercise your Right to Know, Delete, Correct, or Opt-Out, you may contact us as described in the Contact Us section below. Please specify which right you wish to exercise. For Right to Know, you can request either a general list of categories or specific pieces of information (we will provide the latter to the extent legally required and reasonably available). For your protection, we will take steps to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests (such as access or deletion of data) by asking you to provide information that matches our records (e.g., verifying your IP address or other identifiers we may have). If you have an authorized agent submitting a request on your behalf, we may require proof of authorization and still verify your identity directly.

Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: To opt out of the sharing of your data for targeted advertising cookies, you can use any of the following methods:

  • Use the cookie management methods described in the Your Choices section to disable advertising cookies.
  • Enable the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser. Our Site will treat a valid GPC signal as a “Do Not Sell or Share” request under CCPA/CPRA.
  • Contact us with a request to opt out (we can apply a cookie-based opt-out or other measure).

Because we do not have a traditional “sale” of data, we do not provide a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” link at this time, but we fully honor opt-out requests related to cookie-based tracking.

Notice for Minor Users: Although our Site is not intended for minors, if a California resident under age 18 has posted content on our Site (which is unlikely, as we do not have user posts/comments), they can request removal of that content under California’s “Privacy Rights for Minor Users” law. Since we do not host user-generated content, this is generally not applicable.
